There’ve been some changes here, if you haven’t noticed. Somehow “make the design as boring as possible so the images stand out” doesn’t strike me as a great idea anymore. Mood & Figure was basically a void that wandering images would stumble upon, to rest eternally until the end of time (or at least until my hosting subscription runs out). There was just no emotional output. Well, no more.
For one thing, the design is no longer black and white—it has some personality (and personally, I like wooden textures). The typography’s been revamped, the image sources and thanks counts are more prominent, the images are larger, the grass is greener… anything to make the site nicer to look at. However, I think the biggest achievement of this redesign is that I’m finally talking to you. Yes, you! The old design was cold and impersonal; it didn’t have personal comments from myself under each image. It’s just not fun when random images show up with no explanation. From now on, I’ll be talking to you about what struck me in the image I posted or what’s so special about it—it’s like starting a conversation, except you can’t exactly talk back (unless you want to get in touch by email). But who cares about me, eh? I’m just a guy sharing things that stood out to me, things that I liked. If you were so moved by what you saw, you should totally check out the image source and get in touch with the original artist! They’d probably appreciate it!
There’re also some new pages about Mood & Figure and a listing of every usable tag on here, if you’re interested. I’ve also optimized for mobile devices, so if you’re ever compelled to check M&F on the go you should totally give it a try (and the mobile layout is pretty neat in its own right)!
I just wrote this post because I thought it’d be nice to explain what’s going on here, since the old site might as well have been run by a robot. I still have plans for new features to add to M&F, but they’re kind of on the back burner for now until I get some other things out of the way. I’ll still be updating as often as I can, so don’t worry about me going anywhere!
